Object No.6
This instrument combines elements of string (viola, cello) and percussion instruments (Daf) .The body of the instrument made of wood and goat skin and is suspended from the ceiling or hanger horizontally. Six strings are attached to the wooden frame of the instrument, pulled down by weights. The mass of the weights and the length of the string regulate the tune of each string. A spring is attached to the centre of the skin, as in a spring drum. The instrument is played by a player who moves freely around it, producing sound with a bow fitted with head of soft wool. By pulling and pushing the weight, the player can change the tune gradually. One can strike the the spring, causing a general vibration on the body of the instrument, touch the stretched skin directly, strike individual strings or play on them with the bow.
